High Weirdness

Well the world just got way more interesting.
A 65 year old woman, An old friend, just expressed some concern about Tehran launching an EMP strike against the US.
I'm glad for the rest and recharge I got from the vacation at the lake.
I picked up a few days work after returning home. More money for the prep fund.

I would encourage you all to do the last minute checks today as I noticed some deficiencies as I moved out to the lake. Things that I "knew" were in a box weren't. And as I could not find them in short order I went out and replaced them pronto.
Get your vehicle checked. I just replaced the battery and cables on the Jeep to be sure it will go when I need it. Prices will get higher and shortages will occur, but you need to continue to prep. Things are cheaper today. Do it when? Today. Procrastination is a thing of the past.
Put nothing off until tomorrow.

Now for a bit of a rant:
Folks have been laughing at the phone cord wrap on a middle length katana for years.
Why? It seems to me the individual in question demonstrated some interesting improvisational skills. Still folks are laughing.
Improvised cordage = phone cord
Improvised weapon = mid length "cheap" katana, 440 stainless, sharpenable, less prone to breakage than its longer cousin, and last but never least, capable of full penetration of even threat level 3 body armor.
Seems Mr. Mall ninja might not be the fool he seems.
He armed himself with enough weapon to get another weapon off one of the laughing boys.
Cause when a man with a black rifle laughs at a man carrying a sword. Call his next of kin.
The man with the sword now has a sword and a rifle. and laughing boy gets to bleed out on the pavement.
I give Mr. Mall Ninja 500 improvisational points.
Improvisation and survival go hand in hand.
Because if "You" cannot adapt "You" are a casualty.

Improvise

Adapt

Overcome, its not just in the movies any more. Dragon

Also a good idea to make sure the tanks are topped off today.

No joke Dragon. My "heebie jeebie" level is a 9 today. Folks are gettin' jittery, and methinks it won't be long before the lighbulb begins to flicker, and the sheeple start hoardin' stuff. 'Twon't be pretty at all when they do, especially for folks like me with their drawers around their ankles.... Time to shit or get off the pot.

Even I am having the "look over my shoulder" moments all day today.

The world seems to be getting ready to do something. I hope that these are just bad feelings, but I did go out and buy a couple of boxes of shotgun shells today. I'll also do some canning tonight.

Strange times, strange world. Be careful out there, pay close attention to your surroundings. We can't do shit about the big picture, but we can have a say at the day to day level.

Only a fool brings a knife to a gunfight. Been there, done that, and have the ribbons to prove it.

Only a FOOL thinks that guns are an instant win...

Yup. If you have one you have to know how to use it and to get to it when it is still feasible to use it. Guns are not the end all of defense. But I like 'em an awful lot. Ordered more 00 Buck today! I love that stuff.

My friend has battle worthy swords as they used to do business in that realm. I say they are indeed useful, but learning from them I would not trust other items of lesser quality. You may end up like that guy on QVC: http://youtube.com/watch?v=7e77oXjFkIs

All in all a sword, axe, mace, flail, dirk, or a Roman short sword would be good ideas. I like the axe myself.

I like the fact you stated the firearm is not the end all be all, because it is not.

Up until very recently, I was using state of the art personal defense (circa 1300) for home defense - a broadsword. I like my Sig P220 better for home defense, but my Remington 870 is better.

Swords are nothing to sneeze at, but then again anyone with a pocketknife or better is getting shot as soon as they cross the 21' mark...
